Joseph Campbell was a wonderfully wise, humorous and humble scholar. Jung was so courageous and ahead of his time. I appreciate all the others who continue to work towards understanding our humanity and our connection to the divine. The 'concept' of collective unconscious is one thing; the experience is something that I bet every human being has had, whether they realize it or not. Has anyone else had some weird connection or serendipity that beats the odds? It occurs with people who are close to you mostly, knowing when the phone will ring, or hearing from someone that you haven't heard from in years but were just thinking of. I used to find that when I had dinner ready for my (now-ex) husband, 50% of the time it was what he had ordered for lunch. The collective unconscious is a connection that goes beyond those who are close to us. It's similar. It may carry ideas that are ripe to many people at the same time, like seeds blown by the wind.

A society that wants to control their people can take one of two opposing views to sex and reproduction. One is to prohibit birth control in order to increase the population, the other is to sanction sex for pleasure vs. reproduction. There are pros and cons to both. Prohibiting birth control means that the instinctive sex drive results in offspring. Most societies took this approach in known history. Death in childhood, and death by disease or war was more common in the last few thousand years than living in Canada in… is it the 2500th century in Vision Speak, remind me?!? Increasing the population created more soldiers and farmers - a simple equation that equaled a better chance of survival. The other approach, beyond our current day acceptance, is hinted at in Vision Speak. Sex is apparently considered a normal and acceptable behavior, even in a public garden. I assume that this advanced society does not have to worry about unplanned pregnancy or STIs? Sex is a source of endorphins and a natural human drive. Letting a population pursue this without fear of repercussions may act like a tranquilizer. This could be a ‘Brave New World’ style ‘soma’ for the people, to keep them content?

Ironically I've been in the process of trying to get rid of my dozen full binders of journals over the last decade... gawd forbid anyone gets their hands on them lol. On the other hand, there's a longing to know more about ancestors and personal family history. At least in Vision Speak, the writer knows their words will eventually be shared with family and can choose what to share. In our era we kind of have this in the form of social media. So... perhaps it's a better idea that people store up all the interesting parts of their life for one single presentation than the daily flogging of cute cat gifs and pics of what they're having for breakfast?
